Procedures for Power Interruptions
If you experience a power outage, please telephone Canadian Niagara Power at 1-844-501-9473 (WIRE) with your service address and information relevant to the power outage.
Telephone lines may be busy, as other customers will be calling at the same time, so please be patient.
Please note that outage information cannot be provided until our crews have diagnosed the problem.
As soon as the problem is diagnosed, Canadian Niagara Power Inc. will be able to provide our customers with updated information concerning the cause, the area affected, and the approximate time the power will be restored.
Call back after a period of time if power has not been restored to your specific area.
Downed Power Lines
STAY AWAY FROM ALL DOWNED POWER LINES.
High winds or accumulation of ice and/or snow can weigh down power lines and cause them to come down.
- Downed wires should always be considered energized or "live", and extremely dangerous.
- Do not approach or drive over a downed power line and do not touch anything it may be in contact with.
- If a downed power line falls on a vehicle, passengers should stay in the vehicle until help arrive.
- Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about the dangers associated with power lines.
To report a downed wire, broken pole or any damage to our electricity system, please call Canadian Niagara Power at 1-844-501-9473 (WIRE)
Safety is our priority. Make it yours too!
We all rely on electricity daily and there’s no better demonstration of this than when we experience a power outage. When electricity is unavailable, we quickly turn to alternatives for cooking, heating and lighting. These alternatives can be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. It is also important to have and test back-up battery-powered fire and carbon monoxide detectors, and have at least one telephone that works (not cordless) during a power failure.
Take time to download and review the Fire Safety Notice. Be aware of the dangers and precautions to keep everyone safe during a power outage.
