December 23, 2011 (Fort Erie, Ontario) - Canadian Niagara Power Inc. (CNPI) is pleased to announce the winner of our Pre-Authorized Payment Enrollment Contest is Mr. David Desilest of Stevensville! CNPI representatives recently presented Mr. & Mrs. Desilest with the LG Plasma HD 50” Flat Screen TV for his winning enrollment. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all our customers who participated in the contest!

 Important Notice - Tree Trimming
In order to better serve our customers, Canadian Niagara Power Inc. ("CNPI")
has contracted Pineridge Tree Service to perform tree trimming in the following
areas starting in January of 2012:
Port Colborne Tree Trimming Area
Downtown Port Colborne West of Canal
South of "Forks Rd W" to the lake.
East of "Townline Rd" to the West side of the canal.
East of "Cement Plant Rd" to the West side of the canal.
Fort Erie Tree Trimming Area
Crystal Beach, Ridgeway, Stevensville areas
South of "Netherby Rd" to the Lake.
East of "Burger Rd" to "Winger Rd".
East of "Mathews Rd" to "Burleigh RD"
CNPI’s tree trimming program is intended to help protect the public, protect
property and maintain electric reliability. CNPI implements accepted
professional standards for the pruning of trees near power lines.

CNPI operates in three service areas: Port Colborne, Fort Erie and Gananoque (Eastern Ontario Power). (“Port Colborne” or the “applicant”), a licensed electricity distributor filed an application with the Ontario Energy Board on October 19, 2011, under section 86(1)(a) of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, S.O. 1998, c. 15 (Schedule B) (the “Act”). As Canadian Niagara Power prepares residential and small general service
customers to transition to Time‐of‐Use billing, it is necessary to make changes
to bill periods and invoice dates. You will notice that your electrical invoice may
arrive earlier in December than expected and that you are now billed for a
calendar month. This will become your regular schedule.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO LANDLORDS & PROPERTY MANAGERS

Effective September 1, 2011, CNP will disconnect electrical service to rental properties upon move out of a tenant, if a new occupant account has not been established.  This disconnection will be processed automatically if we do not have your signed “Landlord Consent for Service Connection” form on file.
 
Landlord’s/Property Manager’s wishing to avoid disconnection of electrical service to rental properties need to contact our office to arrange transfer of the electricity service account into their names at or before change of occupancy.
 
Please note that disconnected services may require an Electrical Safety Authority inspection at the expense of the Landlord/Property Manager.  A reconnection fee will apply once service is restored.  Canadian Niagara Power Inc. assumes no responsibility for any loss or damage to property resulting from the disconnection of electrical service.
 

Time-of-Use Updates

Time-of-Use rates will be implemented in your area by early 2012. In preparation, Canadian Niagara Power is currently switching all customers over to calendar billing. What does this mean and how will it affect you?
 
  • With calendar billing, your bill will include your consumption from the first day of the month to the last day of the month
  • It will now be easier to track your monthly energy usage
  • During the transition, you may notice a temporary fluctuation in the number of days billed on your invoice
  • This change will happen over a few invoices
 

Changing Light bulbs to Change the Planet

Changing Light bulbs to Change the PlanetOut with the old, in with the new! Twenty-eight DSBN schools have replaced standard lights and fixtures with energy efficient versions which will save enough power to illuminate one high school or six elementary schools for an entire year. This initiative was made possible through the Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP).

Implemented by Canadian Niagara Power Inc. in cooperation with the Ontario Power Authority, Hydro One, Niagara Peninsula Energy and Welland Hydro, participating DSBN schools had their lights catalogued and their needs assessed by Osram Sylvania to ensure that by changing lights they could simultaneously save energy and improve light quality in schools.
